Mayfield Serviceman's Club 2010 Memorial Dedication March
May 23, 2010
By BAILEY WARD, Freelance
As many may have seen on May 23, 2010, the Mayfield Servicemen’s Club put on a Memorial Day parade to honor the veterans who fought in the past wars and the men of this club wanted to show how much they appreciate what the men before them have done. The amount of veterans that participate in the parade varies from year to year, but even if there was only one veteran keeping the tradition alive, every veteran is there in spirit and should be honored. Another reason the parade is done is to give back to the community and show how much these men have appreciated their support. The Servicemen’s Club was started in 1940 and has been around for over 50 years and they have been putting on the parade since the beginning of the club. To keep the significance of the memories the parade has stayed the same since the beginning. Over 100 veterans belong to the Servicemen’s and they come from World War 2, Korea, Vietnam, and Desert Storm. The veterans do take part in the Banner Town Parade and other veteran associations and host a pancake breakfast at the club each year on the last week of January and the proceeds of the breakfast go to the Mayfield High School Scholarship Fund. The men of the Mayfield Servicemen’s would like me to thank those of the public who have come and supported them throughout the years and would like to encourage others to come and join in on the memories being made.
